Pre-loved Kimono Meets Deadstock Fabric - Drop 1

Pre-loved Kimono Meets Deadstock Fabric - Drop 1

Introducing our new line of pre-made clothing that focuses on comfort and size inclusivity! As many of you know, I’ve always had a deep love for working with 100% silk kimono fabrics. Each kimono has its own unique texture, making every piece feel like a work of art. But I’ll be honest—some types of silk, as much as I adore them, can be a bit tricky when it comes to comfort.

Having very sensitive skin myself (I’ve struggled with severe eczema for the past few years), I know how important it is to choose fabrics that feel good on the skin. I’m pretty picky about what I wear, and I want to ensure you feel just as comfortable as you look fabulous. So, to bring even more comfort to these beautiful kimono fabrics, I’ve decided to mix in deadstock fabrics like rayon, viscose, and cotton. These fabrics not only feel soft and soothing against the skin but also work perfectly alongside the unique silk textures.

Deadstock fabric

"Deadstock fabrics are the leftover fabrics of brands and manufacturers who have over ordered fabric, or textile mills that have overproduced. End-of-line, mill overruns, cancelled orders or designer excess are some of the common phrases used when describing deadstock fabrics. When they remain within the system, these fabrics generally become waste, destined for landfill or incineration where they generate greenhouse gas and other toxic emissions."

The combination of these materials also helps solve another challenge I’ve been facing—size inclusivity. One of the limitations of working with kimonos is that each one only yields a limited number of pieces. For example, from one kimono, I can only make a single men's shirt, or at most two women's cropped shirts—and that's without factoring in the small scraps of fabric I use for accessories like scrunchies. This has always made it difficult for me to create the same designs in multiple sizes, which is something I've been eager to change for a while.

While I’ve always offered custom commissions where I tailor each piece to my client’s exact measurements, I’ve wanted to bring that level of inclusivity to my pre-made clothing as well. Now, with the addition of deadstock fabrics, I’m finally able to offer a wider range of sizes without sacrificing the beauty or uniqueness of the designs.

This collection includes the new women's top design I recently introduced—the Front-Tie Vest Top—as well as a brand new overshirt design. While there will always be some one-off pieces, I’m committed to creating two or more size options for each design, as much as the kimonos allow me.

The initial launch of this collection includes total of 7 vest tops made from 3 pre-loved silk kimonos. 2 of the kimono colourways (fabric -Kanzashi- & -Tanto-) are available in 3 sizes, in addition to the one-off top (fabric -Lauren-). All the pieces are fully lined with the comfortable deadstock fabric which is rayon cotton blend, and partially finished with french seams for extra comfort and durability. This collection is something that I'm very passionate about, and there will be more drops for this collection!

I hope you find something you love! Stay tuned x
